On June 19th, 1953, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for giving information on the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union.
Glad there is a federal holiday to commemorate it...
Jóhann Sigurjónsson, Icelandic writer (Dr Rung), born in Laxamýri, Iceland on June 19th.(d. 1919)
And a moose once bit my sister.
Moose bites can be nasti.
It’s like Kwanzaa in July!!!
1953? wasn’t that before the pyramids were even built?
June 19, 1865, is when the slaves in Galveston learned that they were free because the war was over. Black people elsewhere in Texas who were being held as slaves would not have heard the news until later, and slavery was still legal in Kentucky and other slave states which had not seceded until Dec. 6, 1865 (although in practice it may have been hard to force anyone to work as a slave during the months before ratification was completed).
June 19, 1903:
The young school teacher, Benito Mussolini, is placed under investigation by police in Bern, Switzerland.
How’d that work out for the 500,000+ he killed?
June 19, 1958:
Nine entertainers refuse to answer a congressional committee’s questions on Communism.
How’d that work out? Is Hollywood now free of Commies?
June 19, 1968:
Over 50,000 people march on Washington, D.C. to support the Poor People’s Campaign.
How’d that work out? Are there still poor people?
June 19, 1987:
The U.S. Supreme Court voids the Louisiana law requiring schools to teach creationism.
How’d that work out for keeping God in our schools and communities?

“...actually doing submarine espionage.” You have fallen for a disinformation propaganda piece if you believe that.
They were in at the beginning on Soviet KGB and GRU spying on the Manhattan Project. Multiple books, including by Soviet defectors and the Venona Project have verified their treason. See these articles:

We are stuck with this holiday, like it or not. And I have no doubt that this will be seen by most to be a ‘black’ holiday. I don’t think it hurts to remind people that for the most part, the slaves did not free themselves but were freed by the political party that we are told that most slave descendants apparently despise.
As an aside with no significance, yesterday my wife asked the teller at the bank if it would be closing early today. The teller had no idea that Congress had passed and Biden had signed into law a new ‘holiday’. Of course those who don’t get enthusiastically on board with it will be deemed ‘racist’.
>>Today also marks the day the Republicans freed the slaves from the Democrats.<<
I refuse to use the racist term “Junexxxx.” Not only does it represent the overall illiteracy of blacks at the time, it also reopens old wounds that by now should be closed forever.
I am tying to come up with another name - “Republican Freedom Day” has a nice ring to it. “Whitey freed da slaves” might not be taken correctly.
Serve ‘crow’ to Democrats! ;)
>>Of course those who don’t get enthusiastically on board with it will be deemed ‘racist’.<<
To properly celebrate mlk day, married men should have sex with the nearest available woman.
Else you racist.
The TRUE meaning of Juneteenth, when the Republicans actually stood for something and ended slavery.. the truth..
Where is this? I see he was in the 10th Indiana infantry.
As they went along, they also stated that slaves were free, but they really should stay in place on the farms.
I was listening to The Lone Ranger on the radio when the announcer interrupted the program to tell us that the Rosenbergs had ridden the lightening for final time. It made quite the impression on this 10 year old.
Thanks for giving us a legitimate reason to celebrate June 19th.
Who knew that President* Biden was a law-and-order guy?
Sacco and Vanzetti were executed on August 23rd, but can we roll them into a Kill a Commie for Mommy Day?
They fully deserved it.
And now if we could only execute the millions of traitors in the deep state. Long past due.
Spare ribs and watermelon.
