the laws of physics must be suspended

The current "laws of physics" reflect the current hairless ape understanding using our current language and current culture and current mathematics.

What did the "experts" think the "laws of physics" were in 1500?

The notion that modern man has a handle on this stuff is _exactly_ the same type of arrogance the Catholic Church and the Spanish and Portuguese kings displayed in 1500.

It looks like the only "law" we can count on is human certainty that their culture understands reality "this time". :-)

I knew you would say that, as it seems to be the go to rejoinder in this situation.

I know of no one (but you) who believes the laws of physics are not laws. Our understanding of them or our ignorance of them does not change them. If you believe that persons from somewhere else can make a physical craft to operate within this physical space which is not subject to the known limitations of space-time and thermodynamics, what does that suggest to you about the nature of the reality you live in?

On our thread here one of the FReepers saw a thing that moved at perfect right angles, which started and stopped suddenly with no deceleration, one which moved instantly from 80,000 feet to 20,000 feet stopping with no brakes! We cannot do that. If we could do it, would we not be slammed around inside because of the law of inertia?

I believe that an object at rest stays at rest until acted on by a force. An object in motion stays in motion until acted on by a force to stop it.

When I was riding once with Momma in the old Buick, she had to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident. She threw out her right hand, the fastest moving object I have ever seen, to hold me. She hit me in the sternum and knocked me back into the seat. That was the only impact and I would rather have had the accident. Perhaps there is some Star Trek technology somewhere that will allow us to accelerate instantly to warp speed without even mussing our hair, but not in this cosmos.

You said arrogance about the priests and kings. I think you meant ignorance. Perhaps you do not know what the word arrogance means.
