LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said Sunday that his barn has been told Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit failed a postrace drug test, the latest doping scandal for horse racing and arguably the sport’s premier trainer.

Flanked by his attorney Craig Robertson in a morning news conference at Churchill Downs on Sunday, Baffert said Medina Spirit was found to have 21 picograms of the steroid betamethasone, double the legal threshold in Kentucky racing, in a postrace sample.

Me too!! A couple of times a year. The greastest race ever run by a horse. It’s the equivalent of a baseball player hitting 8 grandslams in a doubleheader or a running back rushing for 1000 yards in one game.

How do you determine the body volume of a horse?

sorry, autocorrect, that's supposed to be BLOOD volume.

If you let this go by then next year you will have nothing but Bulgarian and East German mares winning the Derby.

I can think of one man who’d LOVE to see Baffert taken down a notch: Jason Service... trainer of Maximum Security.

“””It’s WAY worse than that. Millionths would be micrograms. Picograms is trillionths of a gram. (Billionths would be nano).”””

Were the 25 picograms found in the blood sample that was probably less than one ounce?

Well, if the sample was one gram (probably around 1cc), then the measurement was 21 parts per trillion. Even ppb (parts per billion) is pretty fine and this is 1000 times less.

I re-watch that race about once/year. Will there ever be such a dominant performance?

I re-watch the Triple Crown of 73 all the time. The Belmont was epic, but Secretariat's last to first run in the Preakness on the 1st turn was an unbelievable feat. I was there and have never seen a horse go that wide on Pimlico's tight turns and blow away all the horses so easily. That triple crown easily ranks in the top 3 of my favorite sports moments. That horse was so special.

Poor horse, it started with codeine cough syrup, worked its way up to pot and when old enough to perform, the dude was addicted....

You got it backward...grass is the gateway drug...and they start young. See those colts chomping away in the meadows, might as well be an opium den I tell ya.

I wonder if the horse got the shots Legally, earlier, but his system didn’t clear the metabolites of the drug within the expected withdrawal time.

We had to watch for this when we were milking cows to avoid putting “hot” milk in the tank. Some of the cows took a lot longer than expected to test OK and clear of medication. If we were responsible for a condemned tanker load, we paid for it.

The horse might have been in the same situation.

Wrong thread?

Not really. I clicked on the source and read some of the article for a change, and the article below it caught my eye. So the article I cited was on the same web page as the horse story.

That was my thought but you expressed the question a lot better than I did......

Is this a somewhat common occurrence? Is this something that could reasonably be expected to be found in other horses that ran that day regardless of where they finished?

No doubt Medina will end up on the streets of Harlem with red hooves and torn fishnets.

I actually forgot about the Derby at the crucial time. Missed it.

But, I’ve lost enthusiasm for current racing since they BOWED to these thugs and LIARS of BLM. So no recordings as I’ve done for 35 years, and no plans. No studying the horses. Hell I don’t even know the horses this year.

SJW commies and enablers at the tracks destroyed it.
