literacy IS a life skill.
Math is too.
They had lousy parents, that’s all.
But, but, they’ve had diversity training and are learning NewSpeak all the time. There are even jobs in the Ministry of Truth waiting for them.
That's what dads are supposed to teach you. Leave the trig, chemistry, etc., to the academicians. Can you imagine your dad teaching you calculus? Very few dads could. And believe it or not you need the academic stuff for lots of jobs. Otherwise, prepare to dig ditches.
My daughter cut my hair last weekend, did a pretty good job. Learned how from a YouTube video.
I think that’s one of the things that’s fueling the proliferation of auto parts stores, that seem to be everywhere now.
Fake history, politics and propaganda taught by public school government bureaucrats is making it even worse.
I did an exercise with my kids a few years ago. Out of the 6-7 hours per day spent in high school, I asked them to calculate how much time they actually spent “learning.”
Subtract everything else from time between classes, gym and health class, to lunch, school announcements, teachers trying to keep order, stupid questions from unprepared classmates, teachers randomly talking or complaining about their spouses, etc…
It usually came to about 2 hours per day.
Parents that were driven to work more hours than probably necessary to fund the social state.
Very hard to be a parent when you’re forced to work 80hours or more a week to have a standard of living.
Soon they will wish they had learned academics instead of social justice and about white fragility.
That’s what parents are for.
They need to be taught to not vote for Socialists/Marxists.
THAT’s a valuable Life Skill.
Back in the day, mom was supposed to teach you how to cook, and dad was supposed to teach you household repair and automotive skills.
With the growth of the Internet, schools are becoming less and less important to real life every day.
If a kid wants to learn it is all there on the computer/cell phone.
If they don’t want to learn, then nothing will help them.
Right now the dinosaur teacher unions, leftist propagandist and pervert teachers, and public schools are hanging on for dear life, but they are headed for the dustbin of history.
There _will_ be a better way. Hopefully some young Freepers will have the vision and the work ethic to create it.
Read, write, speak basic English, and learn basic math. You will do well. And don’t rely on spelchek!
I wonder how old these 1,000 parents are? If under 35, much of the “academic” stuff they learned in school probably WAS useless.
Big Brother doesn’t want you to know how to take care of yourself. They want you to have to rely on the government for your life.
If people want to learn, they have the ability to do so at very low cost. Even in the 1800s, Abraham Lincoln studied law by the fireplace in his log cabin.
The Internet has made it possible for people to get a good education without even leaving their house.
Public school for most is a horrible experience. Some affluent suburbs were fortunate to have decent public schools but that is the exception to the rule. Most people in my day got the "Welcome Back Kotter" experience.
That’s what parents are for.
Family is supposed to teach you those things (preferably parents, but not always possible). Changing a tire, sewing a button, cooking spaghetti, peeling potatoes, balancing a checkbook, etc. are all basic things one should learn from family before adulthood. Traditionally, women would learn more advanced housekeeping skills in home economics and guys would do shop class or something like that, but basic life skills were covered in the home. But tradition is a microaggression or something.
Hi.
One of the most important lesson/skill that I was taught was how to hunt, kill, field dress, skin, butcher and cook a deer.
