It must be stressful working on a telescope that costs about the same as an aircraft carrier. And everyone will be white knuckled as it launches. Enough said.
A million miles is Nothing when we talk about distances in space.
The sun is approximately 92 million miles from earth just to show some comparison.
Oh don’t worry because this telescope when ever it gets to it’s destination in space will not make any difference at all.
A star is still going to look a dot.
Just a bigger dot, that’s all.
Webb space telescope? Hubble space telescope?
Webb Hubble? Hmmm. Sounds Clintonian.
We will see if it makes it to space this time. Its original cost was 500 million. It has been delayed multiple times and so far 10 billion has been spent .
I used to work on a segmented Telescope. I’m also familiar with the slit mask design for the mechanism on the Webb telescope.
If they pull this off and all the things that normally
go wrong don’t, this will be an awesome science machine.
It will stand shoulders above any land based observatory.
Don’t point that thing at Cankles.
Last Ariane 5 rocket failure was in 2005. Let’s hope the French maintain their successful launches
Anyone test the mirror to make sure it is parabolic and not spherical ?
