Well, the real power play is when they agree to seat a red state senator as VP. I don’t think any Republican would do this, but if I was in charge, I’d tell them that was their only choice for getting a VP. Then you get 49/50, and hopefully 48/50 when the red state appoints a new Republican senator.
That’s the kind of cojones that Repubs need but will never have.

Why not delay any V.P. appointment until after the Senate elections of 2022. If the Republicans pick up a couple of seats, then the V.P. won’t matter (unless Harris goes away). If the dems pick up a seat, the V.P. vote won’t matter. If the balance stays the same drag it out until 2024 and “let the people decide”.

That’s a good point. Harris is better off serving as acting President under the 25th amendment for as long as Biden is alive. And then she can also break ties in the Senate as Vice President.
I’d love for it to be Hilary - then we could have a really interesting over/under on Harris’s likely life expectancy.
I would not put money on any one of them, but if I had to name one person, I’d say Jon Huntsman. More liberal than even Romney and would not let the ‘Utah Republican” governor name a replacement. Picking Romney might mean someone closer to a real conservative might enter the Senate and decrease the progressive votes.
