Doesn't the President typically give The State of the Union by now?

Usually, a new president doesn’t give a State of the Union speech. I remember in Feb. 2017 Trump spoke to Congress, but they said it wasn’t officially a State of the Union speech.

I’ve heard that since a new president just gave his inaugural speech, that a State of the Union speech would be redundant that year.

I thing the SOTU address is constitutionally mandated. However, it was traditionally done in writing until the broadcast era. I could see them reviving the written SOTU on account of Joe’s obvious stamina problems.

I agree. We aren’t supposed to talk about his obvious aging, but it’s there. I can’t imagine Joe standing there for an hour giving a speech.

SOTU is not “REQUIRED”. “From time to time” I think it says. Anyway, because of an abundance of caution, because of COVID, Joe will skip it. We can hear from Comma-la next year.
