An uncharitable reading of this is that McConnell worked hand-in-glove with the Democrats to smooth the way for impeachment…even to the point of having a conversation with Biden on how this Constitutional travesty could proceed without messing up his efforts to staff his administration and pass legislation that would further damage the nation.
A non-trivial number of Senators thought they could use the vote to get back in the good graces of the Democrats and the bookers for the Sunday morning talk shows, and they’ve now found out they can’t, see Establishment Republicans Want to Wash Trump Out of Their Hair, But the Dye is Permanent Now.
Now McConnell, who will not have to run for office again unless political taxidermy becomes a thing, has stuck them with this impeachment tar-baby that will make them stand by President Trump or face a very interesting reception back home.

How is this McConnell’s fault? He is the Minority Leader. He no longer sets the Senate’s agenda. And he voted with almost all Republicans that this is an unconstitutional impeachment.
I know, Mitch baited Chuck into going forward with this fiasco. It’s the 4D chess stuff.
McConnell’s one and only skill is getting judges confirmed. Since he won’t be doing that for at least 4 years now, the Senate might as well have a new leader if he is this stupid.

He just used Trump to campaign for him in Kentucky so that he could get reelected in 2020. Then he immediately turned around and throw Trump under the bus. I wish the citizens of Kentucky would do a recall on him. Ditch Mitch.
You didn’t hear Mitch it’s on the floor of the Senate saying that President Trump incited the riot along with a few other powerful people? He was blaming Trump on the floor of the senate a few days ago. I thought he was meaning to vote for impeachment himself.
