Well, I can assure you my wife was speaking in a figurative sense and not a literal one, so I think your beloved Smithsonian will survive.

I lived in the DC metropolitan area in Rockville, MD when I was very young and my dad was stationed at the Bethesda Naval Hospital as an Air Force officer.

But I was old enough to remember seeing all of the sights and monuments. The Smithsonian was by far my favorite place to visit.

If I was ever to venture back into Washington for any reason nowadays, it would be to spend a week or more in the Smithsonian by itself. One of the most interesting places I have ever been to.
