I grew up in Gitmo. It was like Mayberry NC. I hear it still is. Don’t send them there.

Yep. My grandfather also lived in a RFD. As in Mayberry RFD. Rural Fire District.

Mayberry was actually a fictional town, but it was based on a real town - Mt. Airy, North Carolina, where Andy Griffith grew up. I lived in Windson-Salem from 1997-2001, and went there a few times because it’s only about a half hour’s drive north from there. Nice town that still maintains its small town character and has embraced the small bit of fame given to it by its native son.
