Remember, many of those predictions came true. The “dire famine” in such countries as the People’s Republic of China, Democratic Kampuchea, and much of Eastern Europe, large swaths of Africa, and now Venezuela resulted from Communism and warfare, not climate change.
We are now in an ice age despite partial relief over the past several millennia of the present interglacial. If you don’t agree, then try farming in the lowland plains of Antarctica, the interior of Greenland, or even Baffin island.
Acid rain indeed killed life in lakes, especially in and downwind of those areas with Communist governments and their inhuman environmental policy. The same phenomenon probably is occurring today in and near the People’s Republic of China with its people slowly choking on a stifling cocktail of air pollution and toxic waters. People don’t talk about that effect of Communist governance because of the dictatorial Communist repression of speech, press, and other forms of expression.
Children will not know what snow is if they move to tropical lands and lack an education.
Given that the planet still exists, I suppose that we’ve saved it successfully from catastrophe, although I doubt that our success owed to any conscious action on our part. Some of these “predictions” just use foreboding language to describe normal phenomena. “The cooling,” for example, occurs seasonally in most parts of the world except the equatorial deep tropics. And the Scottish highlands on Great Britain already experience a climate in some ways comparable to the warmest parts of Siberia.
The UN had to scrub “50 million climate refugees by 2010” off their website. Not even an apology.
