Danny Shanahan was arrested by New York State Police in Rhinebeck, New York, on charge of possession of a sexual performance by a child
His arrest came after local police obtained a warrant to search the contents of his computer
Shanahan has been a contract cartoonist at the New Yorker magazine for more than 30 years
In June, Shanahan's son, Render Stetson-Shanahan, 30, was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for stabbing to death his roommate in 2016

A cartoonist whose work has been repeatedly featured in the New Yorker has been arrested on child pornography charges after police searched his computer.
Danny Shanahan, 64, was taken into custody by the New York State Police at his home in Rhinebeck, New York, on Wednesday and charged with possession of a sexual performance by a child.
According to the State Police, Shanahan's arrest came after the Village of Rhinebeck Police Department obtained a warrant to search the contents of his computer.
