I fought a similar battle in the universities. My Ph.D. is in Cliometrics and I tried to teach conservative economics a la Friedman and they did listen. However, I was pretty much a lone voice for conservatism. I ate a lot of lunches alone. Oddly, even though I was surrounded by very bright people, none wanted to debate the merits of Capitalism versus Socialism or any other "ism".

I hear ya’. While a teacher, I was called into my schools’ principal’s offices several times and basically told to stop teaching the truth about this country and stick to the district’s “liberal script and curricula”. The entire US public school system, and most of the university programs, are run by arrogant and history-ignorant liberals. Talking to a liberal, about the failures of socialism and communism, in every part of the world where it’s been tried, is like talking to the “head dead”. At one point, I even taught at Rice University and it was no different. I learned to keep my pro-America/pro-democracy views to myself.
