A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon after falling over a cliff on Highway 1 in San Mateo County, officials said.
A witness reported seeing the motorcycle drive over the edge of a cliff south of Devil's Slide near McNee Ranch State Park and Grey Whale Cove State Beach.
Cal Fire's San Mateo - Santa Cruz Unit and Pacifica Fire responded to the incident and firefighters used a rope system to bring the victim up the cliff side.

I heard that Highway 1 is scary to drive, that it looks like you could go off a cliff.
Depends on the spot. Along Big Sur it’s like that a lot. And a couple hours north of San Francisco there are some spots too.
Are there stretches of SR 1 without guard rails?
I was just riding that very same road last month, camping at half-moon bay. Beautiful road as is most of highway 1. Yes, lots of cliffs with no guardrails along highway 1, just a moment of distraction, especially on a motorcycle, and you are in for one heck of an “oh sh@t” moment.
Its worth the risk though, by far!
COVID19 seizes another victim! When will it end???
Yes.
Obviously we all need to go back to our separate underground bunkers and await orders from Kamala.
I don’t even like driving to Stinson Beach. That’s a little north of Sausalito. Stinson B. has, or at least they used to have long twisty, lumpy roads. Never liked it, but I’m not a native Californian. I’ve heard some native folks say they took their first Driver’s Test in this same twisty area.
They may have been joking.
Maybe this sport wasn’t for him.
IMHO H17 is worse.
Potential Democrat voter now,
His last words were “The money is buried under the big W in Santa Rosita State Park....”
>> I heard that Highway 1 is scary to drive
Yeah, it’s a #’d up route.
After the service I lived in that general area for 20 years. Spent much of it on a motorcycle. LOVED those winding, twisty, bumpy roads of N. Calif! Enough to give anyone a shot of adrenaline. Had a few close calls, but you’ve got to expect that. Too bad for this fellow. He may not have done a thing wrong either... a bird in the face, an oily spot on the road, a pretty girl, any one of which could be the last thing you ever see.
COVID
Wow. All I can say is stay awake and keep your eyes on the road. Plus don’t drink and drive especially on SR 1.
I rode with someone who drove that stretch of road and I was puking bad. Never again.
