I was working in Switzerland. Initially, after every 8 days, I have to get a new stamp on the passport for work Authorization. After 3 months Canton approved it for 6 months. My company had to submit so many paperwork. For a year I stayed in hotels near Zurich Airport. If I move to another Canton, I have to go through the whole Circus again.
Well, when I returned back to the USA, IRS Audit is every other year because of Bank accounts in the Swiss and UK bank.
I was able to get the UK to work permits easily and no problem entering and working in the UK. But my other colleagues were not so lucky. They were deported from the airport.
Yes, and I didn’t even mention the taxes.
As a US citizen, you still have to pay US taxes even when living abroad. And depending on the country, you may owe income tax THERE. Many countries to have a treaty with the US that if you pay US taxes, you don’t owe/can offset your expat country’s taxes. And then there’s the paperwork...
