I don’t think it’s any sort of CGI, but he does appear to be a little bit plastic, and I think that’s more due to video filters, which these days are digital. It’s just meant to clean up his appearance in sort of the same vane as air-brushing of models and actresses.
One other thing that I did notice that you may have caught but not noticed precisely, but I think they augmented the speed at some points. I think they did this to fix his slower speech patterns. This is something that’s relatively easy to do with audio editing by itself, sorta like auto-tuning but more to do with the lingual cadence, but it’s quite a bit harder to cover when you also have video to sync with it.
