I grew up over in Orchard Park. We had relatives who owned a farm in Varysburg, NY (not to far from Attica).
I remember riding the Attica scenic railroad as a kid.
My younger brother works at the Big House in Lewisburg, PA.
He is in the management of the federal prison there.
He has been there since 1989/90.
I was born and raised in Rochester, New York, but moved from there around 1973, to the Utica/Rome area with my then husband and our two sons. I got divorced in 1979, took the job with the State in 1980, and moved with my sons to Auburn. Spent a little over 3 years there before transferring to Mid-State C.F. in Marcy, NY in December 1983. It had been a psych center originally, but Mario Cuomo dumped all the residents into the community, and turned it, and other psych centers across the state into prisons. Those residents eventually ended up in the prison system. I made Sergeant in 1989, and retired in 2003. I was able to get out 23 months early because I was in Tier I of the state’s retirement system. That tier allowed one month early retirement for every year I had worked for the state. I’d had previous time in the retirement system, having worked for Monroe county (Rochester), and Oneida County here. I ended up with about 33 years of service total.
