Trump Maneuvers To Protect Robert E. Lee's Name In Secretly Recorded Phone Call

President Donald Trump dismissed the “bullshit” of the effects of cancel culture as he negotiated with a senator to preserve the name of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee at military installations, according to a recording of a phone conversation given to The New York Times.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) put Trump on speakerphone at an Italian restaurant in Washington, D.C., as the men talked politics Wednesday night. The conversation was overheard and recorded by “someone in the room,” the Times reported Thursday.

Whoever that “someone” is, he just committed a major crime, unless he had permission from Inhoffe, and if he did give permission, he’s a snake.

Putting a phone on speaker in a restaurant surrenders any expectation of privacy.

WTF is wrong with Robert E. Lee’s name anyway? Arlington is on his old farm. He was a brilliant general and an entirely decent human being.

His brilliance as a general is based on his record of killing men wearing the uniform of the United States and fighting under the Stars and Stripes.

one side of me feels it was on purpose and that is only because I am hard pressed to find many honorable people in the Senate or House...the good side of me would try to give the benefit of the doubt...

my Dad is 82 and EVERY time I call his cell I am put on speaker phone because he can’t hear me well. Inhofe is OLD and maybe he just automatically did it like my dad does every time. There needs to be a freaking retirement age!

I get that. But I think it’s illustrative of the fact that it doesn’t appear he can trust anyone.

I’m no fan of his daughter and son in law being so close to him, but with people like this supposedly in his corner who can he turn to? It’s f*cked up.

I realize you can’t compare the two nor the treatment either receives in the press, but when did anyone air out conversations like this with the previous occupant of the White House?

At the end of the day, it’s about loyalty. Not so much to the President, but to us.

If he’s dining with a staffer then Inhofe knew it was being recorded. If he was dining with a staffer then the staffer should have the integrity to realize who is on the phone and what they’re talking about.

However, if Inhofe was dining with “someone from the other side” why in the world would put it on speakerphone. Leak or no leak, this is on Inhofe.

I all my few years, I’ve not seen one man so hated by so many.....And by extension, the hatred extends to the 60+ million that voted for him. The thousands that held boat parades for the mans birthday. The thousands that not only have signs in their yards, but MAGA flags flying and MAGA banners hanging from their front porches. The thousands that wear their MAGA hats knowing that somewhere out there someone, regardless of age or sex, is willing to get in their face and hurt them.

It’s like that meme floating around with a picture of the President, with the statement....It’s not me they’re after, it’s you. I’m just standing in their way.

"If Trump wants to prevent bases from being renamed the[n] veto the defense bill like he threatened."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you anti-military?
Just because the democrap majority in the House can inject "Cancel Culture" crap into defense authorization bills is no justification for depriving our national defense of the $$$ needed to protect us against a hostile world.
And I say that as a proud Chaplain in the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
There are ways to defeat the democrap BS -- far better than strangling our Military!
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Would you like to re-consider your knee-jerk reaction to the proposed debasement of General Lee's legacy?

You need at least one party’s permission, even in Texas

That's what I said. If you and I are speaking, I don't need your permission, I have given mine.

You are aware that more Republicans voted for the "Cancel Culture crap" in the Senate bill than Democrats did?

Besides, I'm not the one who said he would veto the bill if the 'rename the bases' clause was in there, Trump did. Not that anyone should have taken him seriously, I guess.

You may have a point. He baits them better than anyone could dream of baiting them. Like his tweet about delaying the election. He’s forcing the conversation and for the Dem’s to play their hand.

This year, we have the opportunity to end the Senate career of James Inhofe and to replace him with a Democrat. If the senator resigns, I suppose that we still can vote to reinstate him, but the filing period passed in April, and he defeated his Republican opponents in the primary.

A review of current polling data suggest that James Inhofe alone likely will win a Senate seat as a Republican in November. All of the other races either lack polling or have polling that suggests a significant possibility of Democrat victory. Oklahomans, however, still can change their allegiance to the Communists.

“His brilliance as a general is based on his record of killing men wearing the uniform of the United States and fighting under the Stars and Stripes.“

Bullshit.

It all depends on who wins the war. The losing side are called “rebels” or “traitors” - but if they had won, they would be called “patriots”, “revolutionaries“ or “Founding Fathers”.

What do you think the American revolutionaries were called by the British? What would they still be called today if they had lost and we were still British subjects? Murderous Traitors.

My great grandfather was a Confederate Captain and after the war he moved to PA with his family and was a beloved and highly respected pillar of the community for 50 years until his death at the age of 95. Nobody ever called him a traitor or accused him of defending slavery.

He was honored as a war veteran alongside the Union veterans in Memorial Day parades and after his death, his grave was decorated with a confederate flag to honor him - right here in Pennsylvania!

And he was not the only one. Memorial Day was established in 1868 for that very purpose, and war veterans of the North and South were honored side by side to heal the nation and remind future generations that we have more in common than we have that sets us apart.

This recent attempt to stir racial divisions over the Civil war after 150 years of healing is a tragic manifestation of Leftist race-baiting and hate-mongering. What a shame that the people who fought were able to reconcile, and all that healing and mutual respect is being squandered for political advantage.

I do not understand why Conservatives allow the Left to recast American history as being founded on systemic racism. That is a lie. Are we really this gullible?

Isn’t it obvious who benefits from this racial division?

Yet every time the subject of the Civil War comes up, certain FReepers pile on with Southern-bashing.

The veterans of that war - on BOTH sides - must be rolling in their graves...

You mean, during the Mexican War and at Harper’s Ferry, he turned on his own troops? His brilliance as a general was already established long before the Civil War.

The Union wanted him as a general, and the Confederacy also wanted him. He ended up throwing in with the Confederacy, because he felt greater loyalty to his native Virginia. But regardless, his brilliance as a general is based on the fact that he won battles, sometimes with bloodshed and sometimes with bluff and bravado. Ironically, he suffered a resounding defeat at Gettysburg against General Meade, who was anything but brilliant.

Could be. But Inhoffe @ Co. are true dopes if they do this regularly. Many of these devices can be easily eavesdropped on and recorded by pretty low grade spy equipment. Years ago a woman friend was using her portable phone to have some pretty x rated conversations with her married lover as she sat on her patio. Another friend collected a number of these from her driveway and the sidewalk in front of her house. Then gave her the tapes as a word to the wise. After that her pnonecons were nearly cryptic.
