Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has made it official: Juneteenth is now recognized as a state holiday.
Baker, a Republican, signed the measure on Friday as part of a supplemental coronavirus spending bill. He said making June 19 an annual state holiday would help "recognize the continued need to ensure racial freedom and equality."

Exactly.....Proclaiming a national pickle was harmless enough as it promoted commerce.
But under the same guise they amalgamated George Washington and Abraham Lincoln birthday commemorations under the generic Presidents Day to provide a single long weekend. The result removed the opportunity to educate why these were heroic individuals critical to the development of our country. Also the reason that now they're agitating for removal of the Mount Rushmore sculpture.
Screw it.
I’m now celebrating April 12 as a holiday.
Meanwhile, in the slave states that remained in the UNION, slavery was still legal until Dec 1865 when the 13th Amendment was ratified, five months after Juneteenth.
Will Massachusetts be joining Texas in celebrating San Jacinto Day too?

It was a day of celebration, local, and not a day of contemplation and introspection.
The left has gone beyond “holidays” and now designates holy months to praise and promote sodomy around the globe, among other set asides.
Aw, heck. You two are right. Not all the slaves were freed on June 19, 1865.
So now I have to revise my otherwise brilliant post to read:
One can only hope that the Juneteenth celebrations will emphasize this important fact: On June 19, 1865 Republicans freed all black Texan slaves from Democrat control.
