Twitter Takedown Targets QAnon Accounts
NY Times ^ | By Kate Conger July 21, 2020

The company permanently suspended thousands of accounts associated with the fringe conspiracy theory movement. Facebook was said to be preparing to take similar action.

OAKLAND, Calif. — Twitter said Tuesday evening that it had removed thousands of accounts that spread messages about the conspiracy theories known as QAnon, saying their messages could lead to harm and violated Twitter policy.

Twitter said it would also block trends related to the loose network of QAnon conspiracy theories from appearing in its trending topics and search, and would not allow users to post links affiliated with the theories on its platform.

It was the first time that a social media service took sweeping action to remove content affiliated with QAnon, which has become increasingly popular on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Facebook is preparing to take similar steps to limit the reach of QAnon content on its platform, said two Facebook employees with knowledge of the plans, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The company has been coordinating with Twitter and other social media companies and plans to make and announcement next month, the employees said. Facebook declined to comment.

The QAnon theories stem from an anonymous person or group of people who use the name “Q” and claim to have access to government secrets that reveal a plot against President Trump and his supporters. That supposedly classified information was initially posted on message boards before spreading to mainstream internet platforms and has led to significant online harassment as well as physical violence.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. You seem to forget that. Big tech is our enemy... like mainstream media and global corps, the enemy of the people. Your animus to the Q thing is irrational. Q is a thorn in the side of our enemy. Don’t pick the thorns from your enemy, rather let them fester.

You also seem to paint with an awfully broad brush. Those nutter anti nuke nuns do not represent Christianity just like that nutter from NJ does not represent 99.9999% of Q readers.

I have followed Q with a skeptical eye just to keep in the know as to the latest conspiracy theories. Flynn’s hat tip to Q made me go, “Hmmmmmmmmmm, interesting.”

In any case, you are as bad if not worse the biggest Q nut. Your mind is completely closed. 95% of what has come from the Q thing has been accurate. Sessions being the glaring error, but POTUS was wrong on Sessions too... so there is that. FYI, Q has not touched the comet ping pong conspiracy theory.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday […] it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it. [...] The eyeless crature at the other table swallowed it fanatically. passionately, with a furious desire to track down, denounce, and vaporize anyone who should suggest that last week the ration had been thirty grams. Syme, too-in some more double complex way, involving doublethink-Syme, swallow it. Was he, then, alone in the possession of a memory?” ― Orwell George, 1984

If anything, the Qtards should be thanking Twitter for brining attention to their silly little Koffee Klatch group.

Something is going to have to be done about Facebook, Twitter, etc. You cannot have these massive platforms that millions (billions) of people use and thrive on, discriminating. I am OK if they want to ban hate groups, but they have to be consistent. You have BLM, ANTIFA, and others out there burning buildings, pulling down statues, hurting and killing people, and crickets by social media giants. In the end, there has to be fairness and equity.

And we are seeing the same thing, from prosecutions and investigations. Conservatives are being targeted and punished, and liberals are not. Such a crazy world we live in. Its so sad. I wish we could come together as a country.

Time to admit the Internet (”free” Internet content) is run and manipulated by a number of de facto monopolies that operate in the legal loophole of behaving like publishers but with the legally granted immunity that they are not. Not only are they de facto monopolies they are also, with their government sanctioned loopholes, mush like public utilities as well. Time to put them under federal rules that disqualify all their censorship, in as much as current regulations prevent them from being sued for any of the content their users produce. We can leave them with that legal fig leaf but honor that fully by reducing their ability to censor.

I’m not a disciple. I don’t even really understand what QANON means. I saw you make an accusation and asked for a link or two to back it up. Nothing more ... nothing less.

"As we all know"

That is one of these, isnt it?

Ad Hominem, Strawman Argument, Appeal to Ignorance, False Dilemma, Slippery Slope Fallacy, Circular Argument, Hasty Generalization, Red Herring Fallacy, Tu Quoque, Causal Fallacy, Fallacy of Sunk Costs, Appeal to Authority, Equivocation, Appeal to Pity, Bandwagon Fallacy

Last one I think. ;-)

Looks like a big media company twit made a boring booby hatch famous to a few people for a moment on a back page.

Heck, rereading your post I swear it is a finals question from some logic class... there are more fallacious arguments in there than I have seen in a long long time.

Anyone care to dissect it further? I see three more.

The GOP controlled House had too many corruptocrats, Trump haters and weak sisters in it. After the elections, things may look very different. In the meantime, the current heavy lifters are doing stuff, and lawsuits are working their way through the courts, Rep. Nunes has one going and there are more.

🧐Interesting timing don't ya think? #WeAreThenewsNow

The above request for information and testimony by Twitter is very encouraging, not just for the act, but the language which indicates being over the target.

This all does play into a potential scenario that creates anti trust rulings that would severely impact these mega tech companies that have served the DNC and stifled competitors.

The DNC might play along in hopes that adverse rulings against these tech companies might burst the Nasdaq bubble, and bring the rest of the markets with them before the election.
