Google and the National Football League have joined a growing list of U.S. private sector organizations choosing to commemorate June 19th, the date marking the emancipation of the last remaining slaves at the end of the U.S. Civil War.

Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc, has instructed employees to cancel unnecessary meetings on “Juneteenth,” according to a staff memo seen by Reuters. Meanwhile, the NFL has decided to recognize the date as a league holiday and will close the league office. The date is celebrated as African Americans’ Independence Day, and this year marks the 155th anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States in 1865.

Stop calling them liberals there’s nothing liberal about them. We’ve already lost the language battle and some here don’t even get it. they are cultural Marxists.

I want the NFL to celebrate Tadeusz Kosciuszko day. Kneel on the 50 yard line during halftime and scream: THANK YOU TAD FOR MY FREEDOM!!!!

If you refuse, you’re all racists.

Stop being a weeny.”

Fair enough, but I didn’t say it was a big deal because it’s not. I just wish it was on a different day. This rally is damn important and I would be prefer no distractions.

Here we go....If the Democrats sweep into power in November I'd imagine legislation to eliminate Columbus Day as a Federal holiday and replace with Juneteenth.

No, Columbus day is in October, too far from June. They would want to replace Independence Day. Actually, Juneteenth is a significant event worthy of celebration. Make it a holiday. Hell, make it a federal holiday. Americans work far more than most 1st world countries already. Another holiday during the beautiful June weather would be great.

I am reminded of this scene from The Office that someone passed onto me a while ago:

“Stanley on Christmas”

Whatever. The American people are so over it. We were collectively sorry George Floyd was killed by a bad cop but this is so out of control and over the top. We are sick of BLM and COVID. We would do best to carry on with our lives and let their radical ideology and behavior speak for itself.

It is not the celebration of the “last remaining slaves” being freed. It is from From Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, Union General Granger enforced the Emancipation Proclamation-which had no prior force of enforcement as the Proclamation was made upon Confederate States over whom at the time the President had zero legal power, and, it should be noted the Proclamation did not apply to non-Confederate states.

That is,it excluded areas not in rebellion, including the border slave states of Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri and none of the Union states

Knew it was an AA holiday, but did not know why until my husband and I were talking about it today after hearing Biden’s incoherent speech.

I’m confused. Why would Juneteenth (19th) be a slavery holiday? The 13th Amendment was ratified on Dec 6th, and formally adopted Dec 18th. Wouldn’t one of those dates be a better choice?

Side note, that freed the last slaves from the Northern States, not any in the South.
