Note that two of the "meat shortage" stories are from October 2019.

Beef prices are rapidly increasing here in O.C. Also, a week ago the restaurant supply I go to was nearly completely out of beef. Nothing was left but feet, corned briskets, and tongue. Yesterday, the Ralph’s was rationing ground beef.

Haven’t yet noticed a pork shortage.

my guess is the new msm marching orders are to go silent and ignore the idiotic mass cullings of all our herd animals, until things get worse, and then all of a sudden a shiitestorm of coverage and blaming on Trump.

Depends on how you wish to define shortage.

There is definitely a lot less to choose from in our Kroger, and purchases of beef, pork, chicken are being limited (per store visit). Ground chuck has about disappeared, nothing but ground beef.

Tomorrow I am going into our local butcher shop which sources a lot from local/regional farmers. I haven’t been in there in some time, don’t know what I will see.

If I remember, I will report back in a followup in this thread.

I live in a third ring southwest suburb of Minneapolis. I stopped in at Cub Foods earlier in the week to pick up some hamburger.

Other than noticing that prices seemed to have crept up a bit, there didn’t look like they were running low on any meats - beef, chicken and poultry.

Last week Sam’s club was out, but the Walmart next door was full. This week the opposite. Southwest PA.

My local supermarket, the meat shelves were full. Didn’t wear a mask, because a mask makes my glasses fog up.

Petite steaks were on sale this week at Fred Meyer(Kroger) for $2.77 a pound, limit of two large packages...they had to go back and get more in the butcher shop and had to wrap more right then and there....

and then again, down the ailse they had double smoked bacon, 3 pounds on sale for under $9 /package...

When the Chinese plant in Nebraska closed, an in state (Oregon)packing plant flooded the market with very good quality, 3# packages of bacon, on sale. It’s still on sale weeks later.

I think the big guys price gouging plan backfired.

Near suburb of Chicago. Briefly a shortage of canned meat due to hoarding, no shortage of fresh meat at all.

the costco near me STILL has two full coolers of large hams, and none of the other meats are “low” there or in the other stores I frequent. I just took my choice of several full rounds at another store, and that store gets its meat from Calgary.

Honestly, it sounds like the press trying yet again to foment a false panic.

No shortages here, but bacon, sausage, pork chops, shoulder roast, butt roast, ham, etc., have all gone up in price. A package of bacon here that cost $8.99 last week now costs $10.99, and certain brands run $2 to $4 per package over and above that.

I must be the only person in my county who likes to buy fresh, whole, Turkey Thighs, skin on. I can almost never find any for sale, outside of certain holidays.

Turkey thighs are good roasted for a small meal, or to make soup. I like that there is only one large bone to deal with. Turkey wings are jammed with thin, splintery bones that you must work with to unthread the meat. Turkey breast is too large for a small preparation, tends toward dryness, plus the flavor does not vary at all.

There are often wild turkeys out here in the parks. Just waiting to be hunted, cleaned and prepped. I’m not up to that though.
