The Green Bay Packers have failed Aaron Rodgers and continued to fail him during the 2020 NFL Draft by stunningly refusing to draft a single receiver.

Now comes a stunning stat that highlights this to a T. Rodgers has thrown just one career touchdown pass to a first-round pick — a wild stat that is even more incredible when you realize what kind of support other top quarterbacks have gotten over the years.

“....you won’t have to overpay for Offensive Lineman...”

This is apparent as the teams that went to the super bowl according to Sporting News were ranked Chiefs at 13th and the 49ers at 21st in the NFL in offensive line comparisons to the other teams. The number one line play team was Dallas and they finished up at .500 at 8 & 8. So I guess it was their skill players?

I was a linebacker in college and I know the importance of line play (pit area). But NFL lines are geared to what they are going to use and that may mean either a run or pass blocking majority based upon personnel. So the players are drafted and traded for selectively. Let’s face it, Mr. Huge Contract needs to play and stay alive.

I remember, many years ago, a great quarterback for the 49ers, Y. A. Tittle, was going no where with them and was throwing from his back side all the time. He was traded to the Giants and won an NFL title. All they did was give him enough time to set up and throw. Good old line.

Dan Marino used to give gifts to his offensive line every year. With his legs, they earned them.

Mahomes is eligible for his next contract after this season, look for a $40 million reset if KC offers. A year later, Lamar Jackson will eligible to take an upgrade, $40+ million. Add in the left tackle and you're at $65 - $75 million per year for the pair in just 2-3 years.

I think the way KC deals with is by continually refreshing the RB pool with rookie talent. RBs peak early and get worn out, often by the end of the rookie contract. The current NF: labor agreement really messes up running backs, as they are spent by the time they get to cash in. Not everyone is going to be a patsy like the Rams (my favorite team) and pay ahead of time for declining talent (Gurley). Paying Mahomes premium money makes more sense than paying an okay QB $30 million (Cousins) and a premium RB to take pressure off (Derrick Henry type). Mahomes will be well worth the money. I typically favor old-school play, but Mahomes is an amazing talent and a pleasure to watch, and he's still improving his game.

In the NFL it is a bit easier because their contracts aren't guaranteed, and the team can buy a player out if he isn't performing up to the expectations of his salary.

In some ways the salary cap has ruined a sport like professional hockey. You have a team like Pittsburgh that has had a solid winning tradition over the last 10+ years, and they are severely constrained by their salary cap. An NHL team will usually carry around 25 players on their rosters that count against the salary cap. Pittsburgh's top eight players account for something like 63% of their salary cap, and the average player among them is about 31 years old. It reached the point of idiocy a few years ago when they traded away their starting goalie (Marc-Andre Fleury) to the expansion Las Vegas Knights and got almost nothing in return. They just had to clear an aging, expensive player off their roster for salary cap purposes.

A good offensive line can protect the quarterback and minimize sacks. A QB with a quick release can avoid sacks, too.

Put those two together and you can get some outlandish statistics. In 1988 Dan Marino had more than 600 pass attempts and was sacked -- get this -- SIX times. That's an astonishing record that will almost certainly never be broken.

It’s nice to have quality receivers. Bradshaw has rings because of Swann and Stallworth. And Montana and Young did okay with that Rice guy.

“If I have the best OL in the league, I don’t care who plays the skill positions, as long as they are around the middle-tier, I’m going to win at least 8 games every year.”

Last year the 49er OL made stars of otherwise mediocre to lower tier running backs, one setting several NFL records.

“The big question is how Superbowl rings could he have with solid talent and good play calling?”

Rogers is the best QB in the league, bar none.

He has eyes in the back of his head, and his magic touch on the ball always lands the ball in the hands of the receiver.

Wish the 49ers had him.

Given the regularity with which the Niners kick the crap out of him I bet he wishes it too.

Aaron will stick around one more season, maybe two, tops.

He wants to WIN and isn’t being given the tools to do so.

That said, he also cannot carry the team and seemingly win games by himself as he’s not as magical as he was, when younger. He really hasn’t played all that great for the past two seasons and that is not the fault of others.

Just my observation. The Pack will survive; we always have. We’ve had years when we sucked and years when we were champions. Kind of like Life in general. ;)

You can win Super Bowls with a marginal WR corps as long as the other elements of your offense are in good shape — especially the offensive line.

Thus Joe Gibbs and the Hogs won 3 rings with 3 different QBs and rotating receivers and running backs.

The 49ers of that era seemed to have Pro Bowl caliber players all over their lineup. They were so dominant that it’s impossible to tell who made who better!

Their DEFENSE was quietly phenomenal. I believe they are still the only team in NFL history to have all four of their defensive backs start in the Pro Bowl (1984).

Your description of the “3 runs and a punt” is what caused Jason Garrett to get canned as head coach of the Cowboys.

He allowed Zeke Emanuel to be poorly used when trying to either run down the clock or make 1st downs. The opposing defenses knew what he was trying and most often shut down the play for little gain. ....I was booing such play from my chair at home, with cold brew at hand.

If McCarthy has the same game plan, he wont last long with the Cowboys. The fans are fed up with playing turtle instead of attacking.

McCarthy doesn’t attack. He didn’t attack when he had one of the best QBs in the league. He’s not going to attack without it. I don’t know why Jones hired him. Other than he’s a push over.

Notice too that the Steelers had a bit of a defensive roster in their glory days. And the Dolphins.
