You hit the nail on the head. Anything by Orbison was great. I kind of wonder why Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets didn’t make the list.

I liked Orbison, Dion, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, some early Elvis, The Animals (1964-1965 era), harmonies by The Byrds and Beach Boys, and I thought Mike Smith of the DC5 was underrated.
On the female side, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Dusty Springfield back in the day. I didn't really like Jefferson Airplane much, but Grace Slick's vocal on "White Rabbit" deserves mention.
