Hundreds of Navy officers gathered on board the coronavirus-stricken USS Theodore Roosevelt's hangar deck to cheer for and applaud their commander, hours after he was dismissed.
Capt. Brett Crozier was relieved of duty on Thursday due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command and for not following the chain of command to voice his concerns about coronavirus on the ship to service leaders.
A video was posted to Michael Washington’s Facebook page, that has since been reposted on several platforms, along with the hastags #MYCO and #WEARETRSTRONG.
“That’s how you send out one of the greatest captains you ever had,” someone says in the video. “The GOAT, the man for the people.”
The ship docked a week earlier in Guam after several cases of coronavirus were reported aboard the ship. Crozier wrote a letter to senior military officials, which was leaked to the San Francisco Chronicle and published Tuesday.
The letter discussed conditions on the ship, particularly regarding the danger it posed to the sailors. Crozier warned that “if we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset – our sailors.”

The term comes from combat - and if you want somebody to be killed quickly, you hold him up on the skyline where the enemy can see him and shoot him.

Since you obviously have NO knowledge of the Chain of Command and how it differs from public news sources you also have No knowledge of “actual negligence and cover up on the part of naval command”.
N0t to say that the Military doesn’t have it’s deep state elements, but, your claims are full of Scheihit.
And as others have pointed out: this is a military vessel full of young people, not a cruise ship full of asthma-ridden seniors...and if they were truly so terrified of the disease, they wouldn't all be clustered together to give that very public and pointed show of support.

Given your response, why didn’t he send out a Cat 4 CASREP? Everybody in the Navy is quite familiar with those - Cat 4 is ‘Not Mission Capable’. It’s classified and gets immediate attention.
No we don’t need more like him. His only concern was to keep his kids from getting sick. He didn’t care if it took the entire ship out of action. He wanted 10% skeleton crew. He prattled on and on about that.
You know what he never mentioned? He never mentioned a plan to get replacements flown out immediately to get the ship back into readiness. He never asked for additional supplies to sanitize. He never asked for additional medical personnel. He never recommended the next carrier accelerate its deployment schedule to relieve them. Operational readiness was dead last on his list.
He even use the weasel term, “we are not at war”. That is always used by people intending to perform to a sub standard level. Next, he sent it to his hometown newspaper. His communication was already childish and not fitting of a man leading a strategic asset, but he still could’ve sent it to the chain of command via secure and encrypted communications links.
Last, his official portrait is an embarrassment to the Navy. He sitting there with a moronic grin. In most parts of the world, if someone sits there grinning that way, people think they are a simpleton. Look at the official portraits of Admirals Halsey, Nimitz, Kincaid, King, Spruance, Mitscher, Badger... They all look halfway pissed off and a little bit annoyed that they have to sit there for a photo. And they look suspicious. Thank God this guy got relieved of duty. He is most definitely not one of the top 11 men in the Navy. That’s how many fleet carriers we have.

Please show us the truth that “the higher-ups dithered.” I do think it was a blunder. I have commanded troops in a combat situations. What is your command experience?

Nothing more needs to be said then. If he felt that a leaked letter to the press was worth more than his career and that there were no other options available, then so be it.
Would that be the very promising career where he’s already been passed over twice for promotion? And he had to make a port call in Vietnam, he did not have to authorize liberty call.
Testing? Captain Crozier said he didn’t believe in testing. And saw no utility in it
It doesn’t matter how screwed up high command is, this commanding officer is commanding a war ship and because he wrote this letter it is known to our enemies that HIS ship was not combat ready!! As a commanding officer he had to find a way to get his voice heard WITHOUT letting our enemies know his ship was not combat ready, this also lets nefarious people think that this could be the situation with our entire fleet of war ships this commanding officer was WRONG!, He is a commanding officer because he is expected to lead under the worst of circumstances whatever that may be!!
Navy is in sad shape... Need to start enlisting “Americans” instead of woke sjw’s looking for freebies...
Chainmail, you need to close your mouth before you embarrass yourself further. Captain of a CVN is a military billet not a political or or social function. This captain would have failed in combat as well. He wet his pants instead of leading. I know you cannot understand.
I couldn't tell you if he did or not but I don't believe that I would have because he wasn't strictly speaking "not combat ready" yet.
I remember sending in a Readiness of 2 once because my motor transport was a mess and the fires of hell descended upon me. Ah well - you call them as you see them.
And how would you arrive at that conclusion? I commanded an artillery battalion for two years and I have spent a lot of time shipboard.

On active duty I served close enough to my COs to know their responibilities. Served also on staffs of CINCPACFLT abd COMNAVAIRPAC. Was a commissioned officer. Retired as an O-6. I have first hand knowledge of mission readiness and processes to handle degraded mission capability. I also know intimately the concept of following the chain of command
Have intimate knowledge of order of battle. Served as a Reserve CO for units at both staffs I mentioned above.
Rather than assail my person do you have a rational rebuttal to to the points I made? The CO reduced our naval defense capabilities by nearly half on the front lines. He made that decision nearly unilaterally and announced it to the world. He probably would have survived had he not done the later. The letter is a dumb letter but could have been ascribed to the CO’s being an aviator.
I noticed he has aviation wings. In another post I speculated he might be an airdale. They have an occasional tendency to throw caution to the winds. That is often admirable. However as much emotional appeal his actions may have, he took a most important ship out of the order of battle for the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean. The Russians, Chinese, North Koreans, and ME radicals know this. Sorry, but he could have done the humane thing without telling the world we have one less deployed battle group.
Incidentally, deployed Naval vessels especially carriers and subs function as if at war. That’s part of what makes our Navy so formidable.
Have you any experience in war planning or been involved in making decisions that impact readiness? If so I’ll respect your credentials and accept rational rebuttals.
Stating we are not at war doesn’t fly in the seventh fleet.
It might fly in the third fleet.
Do CVN’s carry nukes? CV 60 (oil burner) did when I was aboard. This Captain is a mess.
