I went back and checked. It was Azar, not Trump, and he said "We knew about SARS, we knew about MERV, earlier MODIFICATIONS of the corona virus." Odd, if not intentional, that he would pick the two viruses that scientists think have possibly been modified. Bio experts correct me if I'm wrong.
Slip of the tongue? Or did he mean the word vaguely, to include evolution of the virus or mutations of the virus? On the following video start right before the 40-minute mark:

That’s right, he hedged the “attacked”, but the implication seemed clear, at least to me.
Someone in the daily thread, not from today, but perhaps from yesterday, indicated that the virus is a chimera, a combination of three beasts.

I am no expert on this, or anything else really, but that definitely caught my attention.
Taking things like that into consideration along with other things like the Chinese buying up all the masks in creation and sending them to China tells me we are probably going to have it out with them at some point in the future.
