If they don’t have a job can they pay the premium? Looks like Obamacare still subsidizes the premium.

Obamacare kicks in at a certain income level, the poverty level for the state, around $12,000. Below that, Medicaid would cover them. And yes, it is subsidized on a sliding scale up to 400% poverty level. There’s something different if the state expanded Medicaid, i think the lower income limits were raised and Medicaid covers more.

There should be an Obamacare rep at a local hospital that would explain all the choices and let them know how much they would pay and help with forms.

If they can’t pay the premium they can’t be on COBRA. Some people have money from other sources to pay the premium. If they can’t pay and lose insurance they qualify for Obamacare.
