Yes they give grants to labs that are experimenting. I was watching on Netflix a documentary "Epidemic" and there was a scientist and a woman who worked with him experimenting and hoping to get the money from the Gates Foundation.
chloroquine has been around for so long that some Malaria's are becoming resistant to it.
"Chloroquine is a medication used to prevent and to treat malaria in areas where malaria is known to be sensitive to its effects. Certain types of malaria, resistant strains, and complicated cases typically require different or additional medication."
I do believe that was the name of the lab the two people were hoping to get the grant from Gates. So it looks like they did.
I have no idea if there new drug will be used for the corona virus or not.
