A former St. Louis police officer accused of killing another officer while playing Russian roulette pleaded guilty on Friday and was sentenced to seven years in prison, the authorities said.
The former officer, Nathaniel R. Hendren, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and one count of armed criminal action in the shooting death of Katlyn Alix, another officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, according to Kimberly M. Gardner, the St. Louis circuit attorney.

I agree. My guess is she stopped by to end the affair and he flips out, killing her. The story he concocted is just too convenient.
The people who hired them should be ... questioned.
My first date with my eventual wife was to see the movie "Deer Hunter"
Those of you younger Freepers there is a rather intense Russian roulette scene in the movie.
After 40 years, I think she has forgiven me.
Yep! Clearly they both flunked their statistics course...
YUP!
I remember this case and all the questions raised here at FR
The explanations just do not smell right.
The author writes like she was actually there when Officer Alix met her untimely end. Story stinks to high heaven
Why link NYT when so many other sources ...
The pistol was probably fully loaded when he shot her. Its a deal where theyre fooling around and somebody broke it off or got caught cheating. A lot of good country music about getting gunned down over unfaithfulness
“Unfortunately, neither one was very smart and they were playing with a semi-automatic handgun.”
Don’t spread fake news
“Sounds like they were having an affair off duty. “
And on duty.
He was supposed to be on station.
I believe he made up the story to avoid a murder charge. Just a theory but any cop knows the difference between murder and manslaughter.
That’s called Murder
Murder by cop?
The attorneys say officers Hendren and Riordan texted Alix, “…less than three minutes after the beginning of their shift...telling her they could use a ‘beginning of shift smoke,’ and asked her whereabouts.”
And your sweet, innocent daughter showed up. She was a dirty cop.
Now she's not.
That was in Florida, in case you didn't guess which state.
IIRC something like this happened in Missouri about a decade +/- a year or so.
Male and female cop partners were having an affair. One night while on duty they were parked and fooling around a bit. Evidently she was showing him, using his service pistol, what oral delights he could expect off duty. Somehow the pistol fired blowing out the back of the female officers head.
Not sure if it was KC or StL but it was in Missouri.
Shot in the Line of Duty.
No matter what her duty was in her cop friends apartment.
She was off duty.
Do they at least have the excuse that they were drinking?
