Mazda says long-range EVs are worse for CO2 than diesel cars
Electrek ^ | 29 Dec 2019 | Bradley Berman

Posted on 12/29/2019 1:26:23 PM PST by DUMBGRUNT

Christian Schultze, director at Mazda Europe’s R&D center, pegs the total CO2 emissions of a 35.5-kWh pack for the MX-30 crossover as comparable with a diesel-powered Mazda3 compact. He’s including total CO2 emissions for the vehicle’s use, as well as battery production and disposal. That advantage is still there if you had to replace the pack after 100,000 miles, according to Mazda.

At this point in time, Mazda is right about EVs. There may be technological breakthroughs that change the equation in the future.

It’s not about that. It’s about forcing people to buy the green tech items that can’t compete in a free and open marketplace. Green tech supporting politicians get a cut. All that save the world, climate crises stuff is just narrative to conceal the true intentions. Sheesh.

Portable electric powered vehicles from fossil fueled electricity generators is pretty senseless. Nuclear electric power grids get you there with ‘zero’ CO2 emissions.

I’m willing to wait for a next generation of rechargeable batteries in any case. That’s the “holy grail” of truly portable transportation power

Last paragraph of the article:

Regardless, it’s not helpful for Mazda to make misleading claims about the relative environmental benefits of EVs and diesel-powered cars. And it creates a foul smell around Mazda’s first EV, which otherwise looks like a fun ride.

Electric vehicles are STUPID. PERIOD

And they've been stupid since gasoline became widely available early last century.

Electric cars were dead and buried until the green idiots started to believe electricity comes from the ether.

ca.1900, the best electric cars got 100 miles per charge.

Today, 200 miles per charge is considered good.

That's roughly a 100 mile increase in 120 years.

Doesn't sound like a winning solution to me....

The other day Honda announced they were taking their time on EV’s.
Today Mazda poopoos their own new EV.

They need a product to placate the regulators and not bet the farm.

Recall Sergio:
“I hope you don’t buy it because every time I sell one it costs me $14,000,” he said to the audience at the Brookings Institution about the 500e. “I’m honest enough to tell you that.”

And Japan is famous for its backchannel collusion.

The batteries in EV’s are toxic waste. They don’t store all the energy that goes into them- Especially after they age. They don’t last long and are super expensive to replace. They just don’t make sense. And they won’t unless a far better energy storage device come into existence.

EVs are not meant to ‘save the world’. They are meant to increase the ‘hassle factor’ of owning any car (price, having to plug in every night, less flexibility, etc.). And this is needed for their longer-term plan, which actually would help to ‘save the world’, by their definition - and that is getting Americans out of the houses, razing those houses, and putting Americans into collectives (high rise apartment buildings near ‘mass transit’).

Yea, but I know, I know, So-and-so Republican is a RINO, and there is no way I’m voting for him (or her) in November...so letting the Democrats win and getting the above is JUST FINE (by implication).

Can you even get ANY diesel powered Mazda at all here in the US? I’ve never seen one and surprised noone in the US is selling diesel cars.
