***Many thanks to all of you who offered help in dealing with my gout flare up ... Several recommended Allopurinol and advised that it is available at Walmart. Good advice for next time (Hoping there isn’t a next time). I’ll try to get a supply to have on hand***

Alopurinol is older than dirt but still requires an Rx. You could check on line to see if WalMart Pharmacy does mail order; then you get auto refills... your Dr will have to renew the script about every 6 months. Any mail order pharmacy would supply it with a prescription, but I would not trust many of them ... too much counterfeit. Pick a reliable company.

You say 'if there is a next time'. Mostly that is the case; Allopurinol heads off the production of the purinols in the blood {and thus the uric acid} which stops the gout formation. The uric acid crystals can be destructive to the kidneys; I advise pursuing this with a Dr. As I say, I have taken it for perhaps 30 years with no more gout attacks. It is cheap enough to be worth the effort, and I know of no notable side effects. . . . Good luck, and Happy thanksgiving.

Thanks for the info. I’ll talk to my doctor about it. If he prescribes, the VA will mail it to me.
