Watching 45 speaking to the female astronuts, his tone and manner seemed kind of strange to me.

I haven't seen it yet; but, this is obviously someone else's psyop. The ladies appear to be from central casting. I suspect POTUS is wary of a situation where he is not in control and his standard techniques may not be workable if these two go off in some unfortunate political direction using their hero status.
Just speculating, of course.
