It doesn’t matter if it’s sugary or diet: New study links all soda to an early death
Washington Post ^ | Sep. 4, 2019 | Laura Reiley

Hold up, diet soda drinkers. Regular consumption of soft drinks — both sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened — was associated with a greater risk of all causes of death, according to research published this week in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Participants who drank two or more glasses of soft drinks per day had a higher risk of mortality than those who consumed less than one glass per month.

“I am too CHEAP to drink carbonated water.”

EBT (TANF and SNAP) both cover diet and sugar drinks, no problem.

What a crap statement. Each participant has a 100% risk/chance of mortality.

> Take away the bitter taste of artificial sweetener by topping it off with some cream to make it taste like a float. Doesn’t help much with the calories and fat though.

I’ll occasionally use sugar free coffee creamer in a soda. Only takes a splash.

> Whenever you see the phrase “new study shows”, be skeptical of any claims made, very skeptical.

Unless you see it on Fakebook. Then it must be true!

What about plain seltzer? I drink gallons a week, barely a soda every other month, maybe only 2 this year.

Phosphoric Acid is a major culprit: It is systemically extremely acidifying, promoting osteopenia in the short term, cancer in the long term. (See Otto Warburg and Johanna Budwig.)

The non-caloric sweeteners make Diet Soda worse than the Regular (Sugar): It lies to the body, telling it calories are coming to be metabolized; when they fail to appear, the feedback triggers more, not less, hunger - hence, drinking more non-nutritious beverage.

I am not favoring a class-action suit, nor an outlawing of sodas. Do not accuse me of either.

I actually have a background in both the sciences and nutrition that recognizes Natural Law (versus AMA and FDA dogma). The people on the right who react with a knee-jerk rejection of any suggestion that things like this are especially unhealthful are the ignorant (and arrogant) ones.

My Number One suggestion to many persons consulting me for nutritional advices has long been: Eliminate all soda beverages from your diet. Doing that alone will enhance one’s overall, long-term health.

Interesting post and thank you for your advice. I am a major water drinker and I like a Macha green tea in the morning. With respect to fluid, I think my weakness is drinking oj in the morning.

I’m not going to say diet soda is good for you or even neutral. And sugared drinks are definitely horrible and should be avoided entirely. But this is bad science, which is pretty common.

Good for you!

BTW, “BP was 131/81” is just fine for a man your age. So say my Primary Care Physician, my Cardiologist and my Neurosurgeon. Also, most of the reading I’ve done.

My conservative side tells me that whenever an entity wants to control my behavior particularly what I can and cannot eat, it is time to fight back because they have no business doing that and that they should go pound sand.

I accept responsibility for what I put in my body, I don’t want nanny-staters dictating to me what I can and cannot eat.
