According to a statement released by the London Metropolitan Police, who are asking for information or witness to the crash, officers responded to reports "of an electric scooter being in collision with a [truck]" on Friday morning.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. A woman in her 30s had suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene," the statement continued. Authorities added that "at this early stage, there have been no arrests."

While Hartridge was not identified by police due to the wishes of the victim's family, The Guardian reportedly identified the woman as Hartridge. The publication further reports that this is the first known incident of a fatal collision involving an electric scooter in the U.K.

As of last month, in the U.S., there have reportedly been over 1,500 reported injuries and at least eight known deaths linked to electric scooter accidents stemming from the growing popularity of e-scooter rental services, such as Bird and Lime, in major cities across the country.

I’m sorry to hear of this, though I never heard of her.

I see those scooters all over cities, everywhere. People have the mistaken impression that they don’t need helmets because scooters are so slow. Bad bet.

And they don’t have street skills appropriate to the platform — I ride motorcycles and I can tell you street skills (situational awareness, and at least moderate vehicle control skills) are your best bet for survival.

I hear that e-scooters have caused a major increase in broken ankles, collarbones, wrists, etc. at our major in-town hospital. Surprise, surprise.

Some will say that the scooter was the star because it’s an inanimate object which symbolizes saving the planet.

The only stars I’ve noticed a lot lately on YouTube are Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin.

Gross Vehicle Weight was a major deciding factor in my recent motor vehicle purchase.

My son refers to it as “maritime rules”. The biggest ship wins.

Is an e scooter like a smaller vespa, or is it one of those things you stand on like the kids used to have.

They are akin to powered skateboards with a handle. I can’t imagine using one of these in traffic.

A YouTube star? I guess I’m a bit surprised she didn’t capture it on video. May she rest in peace.

If you mean the Razor scooters from years ago, like that with a motor and battery, and rentable on city streets with a smartphone app. You find them sitting out on the street in dense parts of major cities.

The bottom line is that it looks fun, can be a practical way to get around short distances, but can also be quite dangerous. It’s easy to screw up and put yourself in a world of hurt.

Right of Weight is another term sometimes used. Also the lug nut rule of right of way - he who has the most lug nuts, wins.

Youtube has no Stars. Likes are fake. Viewers are fake. Youtube is a big lie.

My kids watch nothing on the television other than YouTube. No cable shows. No network shows. Only amateur YouTube videos made by “Youtubers” -many of whom are becoming millionaires.

Make no mistake, these people are stars. And they’re scaring the hell out of Hollywood, reaching a generation of kids who are now ignoring everything coming out of the major studios.

And many of these YouTube stars are not toeing the PC line. They’re not “woke” and YouTube is scrambling to minimize their influence. And the kids can see right through this.

Not true. My millennial-age children can name dozens of YouTube stars that have shows they subscribe to. It's actually encouraging to see that the once mighty MSM is crumbling before our eyes. I don't think my kids can even name what was once the "Big 3 networks". YouTube is real and making billions. Many other internet platforms are doing well also with meteoric growth potential in front of them.

Anyway, I wonder if this Emily Hartridge was driving on the wrong side of the road. Easy mistake to make in the UK. Years ago, I almost bought the farm on a moped in Bermuda.

This is such a shame. I used to watch her regularly. She was funny and beautiful.

In the month following the arrival of electric scooters in my midwest city, my ER nurse friend told me 40 patients arrived at her ER in ambulances having suffered an injury accident on a rental scooter. City ordinance require scooters ride in the streets and not on the sidewalk. Helmets are not required. Recipe for disaster.

Wonder how long before the scooter vendors are held liable?
