The Avenger was huge. The Dauntless was not very big at all.

If you are talking about the Dauntless they are relatively small.Remember these planes had no folding wings and had to be stowed below decks on early carriers.Wildcats(equally small) and Avengers had folding wings.

The SBD was the size of a fighter of that era, with a larger wing area. It had the same basic engine as the F2A: Wright R-1820 Cyclone nine-cylinder radial.
