Florida has earned a reputation for being home to some colorful characters -- most notably the "Florida man."
He isn't actually a single person but rather a trope of all the Florida men who've made headlines for doing something ... unusual.
And he's now starring in the latest internet fad: the "Florida man" challenge, in which you Google "Florida man" and your birthday to see what crazy news story from the state pops up.
From botched robberies to deadly cockroach-eating contests, it seems like there's a wild story about a Florida man for every day of the year.

CNN is a few years too late if they are just now discovering Florida Man.
Maybe they finally ran out of Trump/Russia collusion stories.
I think the latest slow moving wave of Florida Crazy began with the story of the Face Eater on Bath Salts.
That’s probably the best one.
I also enjoyed the drunk/high naked man on his roof throwing poop at the police.
Nice weather and being at the end of 3 long interstates means that a lot of crazies end up in good old Florida, my favorite state!

I thought it was the heat and humidity! We lived there for two years and hated it. (We were a young couple.) I told my husband if we got out of Florida alive, I would never go back. I thought for sure we would be killed by an old invisible driver in a Cadillac or Oldsmobile running a red light. (That’s a geezer who can’t see over the steering wheel!)

I’ve never tried to geographically separate out the crazy Florida stories - but it seems like the weirdest ones come from the west central and southwest parts of the state.
For reasons unclear, Fort Myers and Lee County seem to a minor epicenter of weirdness and stupidity.
