I thought Trump says “big league” but it gets misinterpreted as “bigly”.
Yes, but ‘bigly’ is a legitimate adverb, just not one used very often these days. Ha! From Oxford dictionaries, this is bredy gud:
“Origin
Late Middle English (meaning with great force): from big + -ly. Rare from the late 19th century until 2016, it was revived as a result of its association with President Donald Trump, whose adverbial use of big league in speech (to mean ‘by a considerable amount’) was widely misinterpreted as bigly.”
It was an original example of fake news, from the early days of the campaign. Trump would say “big league” at a rally, and the fake news would laugh at him for saying “bigly”. We here and elsewhere starting appropriating the word as a sign of contempt for the mockingbirds, and as a show of support for Trump.
