A little activism slide here.
I've missed ya'll but have read all my pings. Texas activism is in full swing. I'm sliding a moment to cover a little for my fellow Texans but also to remind you all that the derps are alive and active in all our gubmint right down to city hall and county court.
I've traveled down to Austin this year on bills we have in the Texas Legislature to stop the exponential growth of property taxes. With our current structure every local taxing entity, city, school, county, utility, hospital etc, can legally impose the annual rate increase such that your property tax will double every 9 years! And this is unrelated to your property appraisals, which is what freaks most of us out.
Feb 6 I testified before the Texas Senate finance committee. Good news is we have solid support from 4 of the 5 senators to implement relief. There was a huge amount of support and testimony from 3 grassroots activism groups. It shocked and surprised the local government employees to see that we want their tax thievery stopped.
Feb 27 I testified before the Texas House Ways and Means Committee on this. I'm telling ya'll, the city, county and district officials had come out of the woodwork to beg, plead and cry before the committee as to why they need our money and are better stewards of your money. Some actually had the audacity to say it was better that they took the maximum in taxes to put in rainy day funds and savings accounts rather than us have the money for our daily needs!
Please call, write and email your Texas Senators and Representatives. And if you are able please notify your local county, city and district reps to let them know you are on board for SB2 and HB2 because you want the local governments to be more responsible.

Thank you for the updates!
Wow... Thats a crazy increase in taxes.
In 20 years, our Texas property taxes have gone from the equivalent of 2 weeks of take home pay to nearly 4 MONTHS of take home pay. That includes having them take off a shed that a fallen tree destroyed and a boat deck the flood destroyed. It would be a full 4 MONTHS pay if we had rebuilt these structures. As it is, we can’t afford minor home repairs as every dime is saved just to pay the taxes.
