I think that which you said above is profound and so very well stated. He did serve at great cost.
We do not know the full story yet. I am hoping that he was indeed doing good things behind the scenes. But I can see the plausibility of what you have reported. In any case, I do believe he meant well and did the best he could. And perhaps when the whole story is told, we may see more to his credit than appears to be the case available to us right now.
