My lifestyle made it easy, except for the getting out of debt part. Living on the boat instead of in a house like normal people made it possible. My rent in ‘89 was $1200 a month. In ‘90 I emptied my savings and bought the boat for $15K and moved aboard. Rent went to $97.50 a month. That made the difference. In ‘96 my soon to be wife came aboard and our combined income over the next ten years made it possible for us to get out of debt and for me to retire in ‘07.
