Kit, I was five when Kennedy was shot. I’m the very tail end of the baby boom, so I viewed the Boomers much as you did while I was growing up. I was a kindergartener watching the world go insane.

I have often told people I hate the Boomers, who brought division, vice, selfishness, and irresponsibility to new levels. They gave us the Clintons and Obamas. They destroyed journalism and the education system.

I think there are a lot of us who feel the same, especially the Boomers of the earliest and latest ends of the boom. I share the sentiments of your post... many Boomers will be the ones who can’t be saved.

I was in 2nd grade when JFK was shot and I don’t identify with what so many Boomers are known for. My age group suffered from the fall out I think. My brother who is seven years older was a conservative Democrat when he went to Texas A&M undergrad. He moved to University of Arkansas for grad school and came out an obvious hippie dippy. So weird to our family. But he came through the era and is a successful businessman still holding those hippie values I think.

Just like all these hippies in power-academic, politics, business- they really enjoy the finer things in life that most of us don’t value or can’t afford. I remember my brother telling me that sending his kids to the Ivy League schools gave them options for connections etc. The girls came out nice and liberal with unimpressive jobs and are now married to good men who make a lot of money. They are still liberal. I love them anyway even if they make me cringe they really are great women, just not correctly informed.

This is ironic to me that these old hippies who married under the trees at UofA, home cooked buffet in a backyard, and camped on their honeymoon produced children who had pretty lavish weddings and obviously really really like the finer things in life. My brother’s brother-in-law and his wife were University of Texas hippies who married in the middle of campus. He served in the state department his whole career. His kids went to Notre Dame and have high life styles too. He commented that things are different now. Yes they are but the old hippies still want to rebel. They didn’t have to be obvious when their were in control but now they are having to show their colors.

So sorry for the rant but I see a generational difference even in the boomers. And I see a lot of hypocrisy and superiority that is not warranted. I am not sure but they may still be paying off those Georgetown and Boston College bills. Ridiculous.

KitJ you have reminded me of the differences and that brings comfort. My children are NOT in the millennial mold but my youngest daughter’s college friends certainly are and I see it in some churches where SJW is pushed. Some are woefully uninformed but so confident in what they think it drives me crazy. I think the difference is world view.

Melian:

I had the exact same experience (we share a birth year). My revelation came when I noticed that all the stoners and freaks I grew up with started being the business owners and employers.

Those who wanted to stick it to “the man”, became “the man”. Seemed like 10 years prior, they were the ones constantly quoting The Who, “I hope I die before I get old.”

Lot of old people on this thread! (KEK) Dec 1963! I was 4 when MLK and RFK were shot. I started school in September 1969. Everything I was ever taught, might well be a lie! But I want the truth anyway! Thank God for Trump.

I was 14 when JFK was shot.
I was a 5 year old in kindergarten. I wasn’t aware of much except trying to learn how to tie my shoelaces. (I still have the report card)

At what age did I become responsible for boomer wreckage ? and what did I specifically do or not do to do it ?
