“I believe Florida law requires ballot envelope signatures to be verified with those of election office records.
Verification can probably occur any time the ballot in the envelope can be counted.
The voters signature must be on the ballot envelope before the normal election closing time I would believe.
Verification isnt the same as matching.
If there is a match, fine. If enough features match to indicate the signature belongs to the registered voter, then that is probably fine too.
If there is insufficient cause to believe the signatures are by the same person, then the person probably has to be given the right, subject to statutory time limits, to present valid government identification of themselves and sign a document that says yes, thats my signature on the ballot envelope, with a signature like that on the ballot envelope or election records.
The signature verification is meant to make it much harder to commit fraud.
Fraud undermines the democratic process and the authority of government, so fraud or likely fraud should not be permitted in the election process”
