I look at a smartphone as my Star Trekian device that can do some pretty amazing things. The bubble level app alone is so worth going to the dark side. I used it to determine the degree of the angle of the roof on an old shed I was redoing.
Not to mention weather radar.
I have a desk bell app on my phone and it is great. When I can’t get service I start dinging it and they look confused—but they come running!

Well that is very true. I know they can do some amazing things. If the things are ever foisted off on me, and that is a very real possibility, then I will consider your example as an inspiration and just make the best of it!
