I laughed, because that is what the (all black) Atlanta city govt did to get rid of Freaknik back in the 90s. They closed off highway exits to major surface streets, and dispersed visiting motorists onto secondary streets that didnt lead directly to any of the hot gathering spots. This was before auto nav systems, of course, lol. Guess map reading is a white thing.
LOL. Id read that Freaknik finally got shut down-if what we experienced here was bad, that must have been a nightmare. It finally just kind of petered out here, because they didnt get the big backlash they were looking for-everyone just pretty much stayed home after the first year (the worst year), the police were vigilant but not oppressive about towing cars, etc, and we just showed that we didnt give a damn, that wed endure until they left, and they always have to leave. So, not being some young peoples hotspot exactly, they just stayed away in larger and larger numbers every year until now its more like a local family reunion, though a large one, than some wild party. Dont give them the attention, they look elsewhere.
They were tired of the incessant shoplifting and mayhem.
Of COURSE they were accused of racism.
But what would you do if you owned a store, and KNEW you'd lose money to theft?
The store owners were left with a lose-lose situation.
