My former boss gave me about a month to answer him truthfully if I could shoot to kill. "Can I just wing a bad guy?" "nope" "Can I just kneecap him?" "nope".

My boss was dead serious. And it did take me a month to think on it and pray on it. And then I said yes (and I still do, everytime I leave the house or when it feels like bear visiting time). After my husband died our kids were very glad I'm armed...i'm out in the middle of nowhere (BFE) and weirdos abound. So, I got my CPL (concealed pistol license) and was one of about 5 non-LEO who were allowed by the Circuit Court judge to carry in the courthouse.
Oh, what made me the person to have the gun? I was right at the front door of our offices...armed boss was way in the back. And I certainly don't look armed and dangerous. I'm so short and a blonde girl...
So, I believe your friend was asked that question, and I believe the mind-set that says you have to be ready to kill. One doesn't just carry a gun around cos it makes you feel cool (and if you do, send me your gun!).
Fashion police note It can be kinda difficult to dress around a gun, but it's doable. Of course there are really cool concealed carry clothes.

One of my best friends has been writing for Women & Guns for twenty years. She’s tested out the neatest purses and various articles of clothing/holsters. I did a website for them 20 years ago that’s been replaced since then. But it was fun.
Yep. Boss man told it straight. I always taught my kids don’t point a gun at anyone you don’t intend to kill. Furthermore, that included pointing sticks or fingers at anyone and saying pow/bang etc. That’s the way I was brought up.
Now kids are killing every thing in site with videos. It’s a different world now, and pointing real guns at each other.
