President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani sought Friday to clean up a series of comments he had made about a settlement with an adult-film actress who had an alleged relationship with Trump, backtracking on his previous assertions about what the president knew and why the payment was made.
The cautious wording of the written statement released by Giuliani stood in sharp contrast to his previous two days of wide-ranging television and print interviews in which, according to legal experts, he exposed his client to greater legal risks and might have compromised his own attorney-client privilege with the president...
..Trump told reporters Friday that Giuliani, who joined the legal team April 19, "just started a day ago" and is "learning the subject matter." "He knows it's a witch hunt," the president added. "He'll get his facts straight."...
..."The first rule is to shut up, which he is unable to do," said Stephen Gillers, a law professor at New York University. "False exculpatory statements often come back to bite."
"Giuliani's barrage harmed his client," he added. "He waived the privilege for communications with Trump on the subject of his public statements."

O holy crap. I had hoped he was on top of something.
I am so sick of this whole stormy thing.
That’s why he’s not AG. He can’t stop talking.
Rudy did it right and these jerks want to make it seem like they got the Lawyer creds they wish they had...everything is situational....
Can’t un-ring a bell, Rudy.
More importantly however, is the story is bait for the fake news media and they will keep getting tripped up publishing fake news about campaign finance violations and other alleged wrongdoing. Then people will realize there is no violation, or you would have to count all the other porn stars and random women who were paid by Trump opponents during the campaign.
It's an obvious double standard along with the contrast bertween Comey's exoneration of Clinton (giving everyone around her immunity) and Mueller attacking anyone who had anything to do with Trump. The more Mueller shows his stripes the better, and there's lots and lots of time between now and the election to show them.
Thanks for your thoughts.
My take was this is a dead end for them anyway. The MSM worked overtime with Bill Clinton to desensitize the citizenry to sex scandals. And they did great!
So great that “grab-her-p***y-gate” flamed out spectacularly, and DJT is POTUS!
It’s both sad and hilarious watching the MSM scramble to resurrect Victorian morals now and getting the collective shrug-off.
To paraphrase, they have to sleep with the one that brung ‘em.
Giuliani is the supposed lawyer here — not Hannity. Giuliani gave an interview and Hannity produced what he said. Hannity should not be expected to interpret the legal consequences and clean up the mess. Giuliani just needs to think before he speaks.
