New 'Black Death' FOUND: Deadly virus WORSE than plague and with no CURE breaks out - WHO

The disease, known as Marburg virus disease (MVD), is similar to Ebola and can be lethal in up to 90 per cent of cases.

Emergency screening has begun at the Kenya-Uganda border in Turkana after three members of the same family died of the disease in Uganda.

The outbreak is thought to have started in September when a man in his 30s, who worked as a game hunter and lived near a cave with a heavy presence of bats, was admitted to a local health centre with a high fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Several hundred people are believed to have been exposed to the virus, which is among the most virulent pathogens known to infect humans.

Early symptoms include fever, chills, headache, and myalgia.

The news comes as Madagascar faces a deadly outbreak of plague, which has already claimed the lives of 127 people.

From the opening scenes of the movie "Outbreak:"

Sometimes there's not much else to be done.

An African disease named after a town in Germany - I call cultural appropriation!

Marburg is very nasty indeed, one of the viruses considered too nasty to successfully weaponize because it essentially already was.

Recognized as a viral disease by German medical labs in the 1960’s, after dozens of workers infected by primates in a lab setting, so not new. Prior open outbreak in Uganda in 2005. Similar to Ebola, just not quite as lethal. Known carrier of the virus is a fruit bat.

Two viral cousins, Reston ebolavirus and Lloviu cuevavirus do not tend to cause disease in humans. Reston, Virginia Primate Center had quite a scare with a possibly airborne hemorrhagic outbreak in the primate processing facility back in 1989. Texas Primate Center destroyed filo-virus infected monkeys imported from the Philippines in 1996.

IIRC same animal in the movie Contagion.

"You know, there's a lot of misunderstanding about rats.
The rodendus vermikitis as they're called in Latin.
It turns out our long tailed friend wasn't after all responsible
for the dreaded bubonic plague as alleged through history.
Yes, sir. It was caused by an animal called the bubon.
That's right, and the threat by the way is still with us.
So if anyone does see a bubon, contact your local authorities."

The cure? Don’t live in a backward culture without sanitation and bizarre practices like “dancing with the dead.”

This isn't the plague from Madagascar, this is something else entirely. Marburg's vector are fruit bats and some monkeys. The guy who got this was a hunter and must have come into contact with either an infected monkey or bat.

This virus is closely related to Ebola, both of which are viral hemorrhagic fever viruses. The Russians weaponized Marburg back in the 70s and 80s. However, both viruses can be readily contained with proper protection, hygiene, and common sense.

Yeah, the treatment for the 4 Ebola cases cost taxpayers an estimated 20 million a piece to treat and contain.
