FULL TITLE: Fire chief calls Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin a 'no good N*****' after his team stayed in the locker room during the national anthem
A Pennsylvania fire chief called Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin a 'no good N*****' on Facebook after the team refused to stand for the national anthem before Sunday's game.
'Tomlin just added himself to the list of no good N******. Yes I said it,' Muse Fire Department chief Paul 'Smitty' Smith wrote in the comment section of an article about the Steelers' protest.
Smith has since told Pittsburgh's Channel 11 that he was 'embarrassed' by his comment.
'I want to apologize. I was frustrated and angry at the Steelers not standing for the anthem. ... This had nothing to do with my fire department. I regret what I said.'
A volunteer firefighter with over 23 years of experience, according to the Muse Fire Department website, Smith's comment was revealed to Channel 11 by his fellow Washington County (Pa.) fire fighters who were uncomfortable with his use of a racial slur.
'The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors is deeply disturbed by the comments made by volunteer Chief Smith, and in no way, shape or form condone his comments,' the township manager told Channel 11.

And Social Media claims another one.
So Smith will lose his job, but Tomlin will keep his . . . incredible.
I would wager ‘Smitty’ was on his fourth or fifth cold one when he posted his comment...
It’s instructive to note that the statement by the township manager — “The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors is deeply disturbed by the comments made by volunteer Chief Smith, and in no way, shape or form condone [sic] his comments” — does not “in no way, shape or form” indicate the Board’s disagreement with the volunteer Chief’s sentiment.
Volunteer fire chief.
What this should show all is there are consequences for are actions, but the ones who need to learn it will just continue to spout off.
I would certainly agree that if using the n-word is unacceptable, hiding in the tunnel from our national anthem is just as unacceptable.
Not a smart move. Allows them to run with it.
I don’t like what he posted but can a volunteer fire chief really lose his job.
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Cramer is fired from a company he really didn’t work for. Funny stuff.
I don’t know the coach but I sure don’t feel much warmth towards anyone who took any action other than to say get out there and stand for our national anthem.
I think you are on your fifth cold one ...
Why do people have to show solidarity and unity with those who attack our police and national anthem, but no one has to show Unity with any Trump supporters?
Tomlin will not see me watching his team. Done....
“I dont like what he posted but can a volunteer fire chief really lose his job.”
Who else will put out the fire?
Smith is a racist fool but Tomlin is beyond contempt. Speaking of Pittsburgh, big Ben had been thinking of retirement and says he is so upset he can’t sleep. Dangerous to be an NFL quarterback if you are fatigued. Perhaps he should retire immediately. Then Rooney and Tomlin can hire Kaepernick and they can all kneel down together.
Free speech, free speech. Apparently it no longer matters if you are in uniform and on company time. Hypocrisy of the left. Again.
I’m fortunate in being retired, secure, and proficient with firearms, I don’t have to PC my speech, and bury the truth.
I’m sure Tomlin will defend the Chief, because after all he believes in the sanctity of free speech.
