A New Zealand woman has died on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten after the blast from a powerful jet engine knocked her to the ground.
The incident happened at the famous Princess Juliana International Airport, which is just metres from the sea.
Beachgoers can walk up to the airport fence as planes take off.

Jet engine blast is no joke. There’s a training film somewhere I’ve seen showing a pickup truck being thrown what seems like 100 yards, but is probably less. Still . . .
If this were at a US airport, the airline, jet manufacturer, and the municipality itself would face lawsuits to the tune of tens of millions - and intense media condemnation.
Hey, if someone can get $800,000 from McDonald’s because she didn’t realize the coffee was hot, something like this the sky’s the limit.
(Yes, I know that judgement was later reduced)
But if they have any sense, they won't.
Being killed by jet blast from a 737, LOL. At least if it happens to me, it will be a Jumbo Jet.
I never wander on the runway at any airport, it is too damm risky! I am not stupid! But I do swim in Alligator infested lakes in Florida, try to catch snakes with my bare hands, drive a small car (Chevy Spark) in city traffic, give the finger to drivers who cut me off on Interstates, and am married to a red head. There are different levels of risk!
I saw an A350 the other day. At the least the exterior was incredibly impressive.
Myth busters looked at jet blast. Very impressive!
Thank you!
The blast didn’t kill her. She probably smacked her head on a rock or concrete curb when she went down. When people fall down, it’s always a risk that you hit your head on a rock and die - if there are big rocks or concrete curbs around, or any other heavy, semi-pointy objects, like a car bumper.
I’ve seen lots of videos of that airport. It’s pretty fascinating.
Darwin award nominee.
Yea, planes are still really cool. I was having a little fun with it being a 737. You still DO NOT want to get anywhere near the jet blast of anything that weighs more than a motorcycle.
She was 57. If she hadn't reproduced her genes by now, I doubt children were in her future.
Then God help them. I’ve been to St. Maartin and I’ve seen that beach. Most of the people who do this are young and stupid. Old and stupid is out of the ordinary for that.
No big deal, no power train in the truck. Essentially a large piece of sheet metal
The road is just a few feet from the fence. Probably hit her head on the road. Safe enough if you are across the road on the beach.
Long before 9/11 and airport security as kids we used to go to Miami International and sit on the apron and watch the jets fly in just over our heads. You could see the hydro lines in the wheel wells. Pretty intense and stupid but hey we were 18
