It’s really a question of perspective. Michael Crichton put it bluntly that even if the human race died out, life would still go on.

The Biblical Creator began life ‘in the garden’ and it does seem that the most dominant creatures perished in these extinctions. I wonder where flora, insects, birds and humans fit into the order.
Turning to the Bible for answers is always enlightening.
